I am trying out the newest version of Ubuntu on my computer now, in particular Ubuntu Studio 8.04.  It looks nice.

Yaesu FT-857D thoughts

I just got a Yaesu FT-857D Friday. I have been using it every day since Saturday.

It is a really nice radio. So far, I have made contacts on 160M, 80M, 40M, 20M, 10M, and 2M.

I have a 2M vertical base antenna that was given to me by N5UXE and and about a 100-110ft wire connected to an MFJ tuner loaned to me by AB5GT.

Thoughts on n800.

My initial thoughts on the Nokia n800 internet tablet are all good. It is compact and featureful. The screen is surprisingly crisp for its size. Volume is pretty loud for its size, also.
So far the only shortcomings i have found are no quick on/off for bluetooth and the screen is dim in daylight.
I use Pidgin, Canola, VNCviewer, FMradio, OMWeather, Evince, and Skype regularly.
Haven’t upgraded to OS2008 yet.

Weather Station Update

Think I pretty much have all the bugs worked out now. Wind speed/direction is up and rain gauge is hooked up also.

Updating to WeatherUnderground is pretty constant. And the live weather page is up and going.
